this the dance we do

heres a song i wrote in july, that im sure i posted in here, but i cant find it. i couldnt write a fourth verse, so i settled on it being finished, even though i thought it needed another one. so, here it is, in its entirety. its makes me happier than anything else that happened today.

You said to me, ‘darling I can’t, oh I can’t breathe without your lungs’

You said to me, ‘darling I can’t grow old while you’re still growing young’

You said to me, ‘darling I’d hate for my love to dissipate

Across the city while you sleep, while you toss and turn and wait

While you toss and turn and wait’

Well, you should have thought about that before you broke into my house

Before you showered in my sink and left a lake across the floor

When I returned home you said you had wanted to look nice

For me, before you walked out of my life

Before you walked out of my life

When you call between jobs from the backseat of your car

You lie, you’re doing fine, well I’m better off by far

Life is simpler now without your webs to waltz through

You say goodbye, I wonder why this is the dance we do

Oh, this is the dance we do

And well, truth be told, I kinda sorta miss

That you were 10 years older and you taught me how to kiss

And that just because you laugh, it doesn’t mean that you will play

And that just because you love, it doesn’t mean that you will stay

It doesn’t mean that you will stay

I still think of you when all frozen hell breaks loose

The babe’s carriage runs in the street, and I am forced to choose

Between rational thoughts and these delusions of youth

So I try not to inhale, because your smoke’s blown in the room

Because your smoke’s blown in the room

When you call between jobs from the backseat of your car

You lie, you’re doing fine, well I’m better off by far

Life is simpler now without your webs to waltz through

You say goodbye, I wonder why this is the dance we do

Oh, this is the dance we do

This is the dance we do

Oh this is the dance we do

You say goodbye.
